Terms of Service

Effective date: April 10, 2026

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Field Scouts ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to all of these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.

If you are using the Service on behalf of a minor (for example, as a parent or legal guardian managing an account for a child aged 13 or older), you accept these Terms on their behalf and are responsible for their use of the Service.

2. Description of Service

Field Scouts is a community-driven platform where players, parents, spectators, and coaches share practical, game-day information about outdoor sports venues — including shade, seating, restrooms, snack bars, parking, and entry fees. The Service allows users to search for venues, submit new venue and field information, write reviews, suggest corrections, and report inappropriate content.

Field Scouts is designed to be a family-friendly resource used by people of all ages, including young athletes and their families. All users are expected to contribute and interact in a manner consistent with this purpose.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account on Field Scouts. If you are between 13 and 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

4. User Accounts

To contribute content — add venues, write reviews, or suggest corrections — you must create an account using a valid email address. Authentication is handled via magic link emails; we do not store passwords.

You agree to:

  • Provide a valid email address that belongs to you
  • Maintain the security of your account by protecting access to your email
  • Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account
  • Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use of your account

Each account is assigned an anonymous username (e.g., "Scout-A3F2B1") by default. You may customize your username from your profile page. Usernames must not impersonate another person, organization, or brand, and must not contain offensive or inappropriate language.

5. User Content & Public Visibility

Your contributions are public. When you submit venue information, write a review, or suggest a correction, that content — along with your username and the date of submission — is publicly visible to all users of the Service, including unregistered visitors. Your email address is never displayed publicly.

By submitting content to Field Scouts, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute that content as part of the Service. You retain ownership of your original content. This license allows us to operate the platform and display your contributions to other users — it does not grant us the right to sell your content independently or use it for unrelated commercial purposes.

You represent that any content you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge, that you have the right to submit it, and that it does not violate any third party's rights.

6. Community Standards & Prohibited Content

Field Scouts is a family-friendly platform. Our community includes young athletes, parents, and families who rely on this information for game-day planning. All content must reflect this context.

You agree not to submit content that:

  • Contains profanity, vulgar language, obscenities, or sexually explicit material
  • Contains hate speech, slurs, or language that demeans any individual or group based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin
  • Harasses, threatens, intimidates, or bullies any individual — including other users, players, coaches, parents, officials, or venue staff
  • Contains personal attacks or content directed at a specific individual rather than describing a venue or game-day experience
  • Is knowingly false, misleading, or intentionally inaccurate
  • Contains spam, advertising, promotional material, or solicitations
  • Includes personal information about others (phone numbers, addresses, full names of private individuals) without their consent
  • Infringes on any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights
  • Violates any applicable local, state, or federal law or regulation

Review guidelines

Reviews should focus on the venue and the game-day experience:

  • Describe the physical conditions — shade, seating quality, field surface, facilities
  • Share practical tips — parking, where to set up, what to bring
  • Be honest and constructive — critical feedback is welcome when it's about the venue
  • Keep it relevant — reviews about referee calls, game outcomes, or coaching decisions are off-topic and may be removed

7. Content Moderation & Enforcement

We use a combination of automated filters and community reporting to maintain content standards.

  • Automated filtering: Reviews are checked against a profanity and vulgarity filter at the time of submission. Content that triggers the filter will be rejected and you will be asked to revise your submission.
  • Community reporting: Any logged-in user may report a review they believe violates these Terms. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team.
  • Administrative review: Our moderation team may flag, edit, or remove any content that violates these Terms or the spirit of the community standards described above.

Consequences for violations

Depending on the severity and frequency of violations, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Remove the offending content
  • Issue a warning to the user
  • Flag the user's account for enhanced review of future submissions
  • Temporarily or permanently suspend the user's account

We strive to enforce these standards fairly and consistently, but we reserve the right to make moderation decisions at our sole discretion.

8. Accuracy of Information

Field Scouts provides community-contributed information on an "as is" basis. We do not independently verify venue details, and we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information on the platform. Venue conditions — including facility availability, fees, and hours of operation — may change without notice.

Always verify critical details directly with the venue or organization, especially before traveling a significant distance. Field Scouts is a planning tool, not a substitute for direct confirmation.

9. Intellectual Property

The Field Scouts name, logo, design, and original content (excluding user-submitted content) are the property of Field Scouts and its operators. You may not use our branding, trademarks, or original content without prior written permission.

The platform's software is proprietary. You agree not to reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract source code from the Service.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Field Scouts and its operators, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:

  • Your use of, or inability to use, the Service
  • Any content submitted by other users
  • Any inaccuracy in venue information, reviews, or ratings
  • Unauthorized access to or alteration of your account or data
  • Any decision you make based on information obtained through the Service

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Field Scouts and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you, but are not required to do so in cases of severe or repeated violations.

You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us through our feedback form. Upon deletion, your personal information (email, username) will be removed. Content you have contributed (venue information, reviews) may remain on the platform in anonymized form, as other users rely on this community-contributed data.

13. Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Sacramento County, California.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page and, where practicable, notify users through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

16. Contact

If you have questions about these Terms, please contact us through our feedback form.
